Technology in Education: A Future Classroom

Questions Every Teenager Needs to Be Asked | Laurence Lewars |

The world is not a fair place and not everyone gets to live out their dreams, but should this stop us from dreaming? Early on teenagers have their dreams beaten out of them by life. This talk attempts to revive this lost dream in teenagers across the world As a student with a very diverse ethnic background, Laurence is a true embodiment of the international nature of Dhahran High School - where he is now a junior. He is a leader in his school's Model United Nations Club as well as a member of his school's student council. 1.   A very good video resource of lessons for all these subjects at your fingertips.

2.   Research shows Kiwi school leavers not equipped to engage with Asia
3.   Some years back I (duppati) asked this kind of question in a NZQA workshop….and repeated it in some conferences I attended…...we heard it from Ken Robinson and Sadhguru in a video I posted previously…… here is further research into it by Arlo Kempf……..Should we get rid of standardized testing? Although standardized testing is a particularly hot topic in education right now, this approach to measurement has been in use for two millennia. And while the results of standardized testing can help us understand some things, they can also be misleading if used incorrectly. So what do these tests actually measure? And are they worthwhile? Arlo Kempf investigates.

Modern Learning Environments: Albany Senior High School
Modern Learning Environments: How the research into flexible, open learning spaces translates into action.
Albany Senior High School's large ‘learning commons’ host three-four concurrent classes at any one point in time. The classes are mixed in both areas of learning and year levels so there is a lot of cross-pollination. Each learning common is home to six teachers drawn from a range of different learning areas and these teachers work together as a team on each individual’s teaching as inquiry project, meaning the informal support and observations taking place every lesson are used to improve each teacher’s practice.

Learning design – How the people-based design process works
Director of innovation, Stephen Collis (Sydney Centre for Innovation in Learning) explains what a design process is and how it evolves around empathy and the people that you are designing it for. Stephen explains that knowing your students feel safe means, "people can feel a lot safer about making mistakes and being experimental".

"What is an Innovative Learning Environment?" 25 OECD ILE project collaborators share their thoughts

Collection of all the interviews with the speakers at the "Barcelona International Conference on Learning Leadership" (December 2013) about what is an Innovative Learning Environment in different countries and situations. http://learningleadershipconference.c... The OECD Innovative Learning Environments (ILE) project analyses how young people learn. It studies which conditions and dynamics allow them to be able to learn better. By identifying concrete cases of innovative learning environments from all over the world, ILE aims to inform practice, leadership and reform through generating analysis of innovative and inspiring configurations of learning for children and young people. The distinctive contribution of the ILE project is to analyse, with numerous international examples, innovative ways of organising learning at the micro level (learning environment) and how this connects to the meso level (networks and communities of practice) and strategies to implement learning change at the macro, system level. Designing for a better world starts at school: Rosan Bosch at TEDxIndianapolis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5mpeEa_VZo

Published on Nov 17, 2013
Rosan Bosch talks about how modern society calls for lifelong learners, problem solvers and creative thinkers! It calls for those who are prepared for a future of ongoing knowledge flow and development. This is why we must change the common perception of education, as a slightly boring or unpleasant duty that you simply must overcome. Motivation, inspiration and challenge are key conditions if we want our children to take reasonability of their own learning. If we want them to get engage, exited, explorative and curious about the world they are living in. By using design as a tool, it is possible to change the physical environment of our educational institutions and turn the school day into a meaningful and significant experience that will prepare our children for future demands. Bosch is the founder and creative director of the Copenhagen based design agency Rosan Bosch Studio. She has worked professionally with art, design and architecture for more than twenty years and has specialized in using design as a tool to develop better and more inspiring school environments. Rosan Bosch Studio is globally known for its school projects, which emphasize a modern and innovative approach to the development of differentiated school environments. Especially the colourful and imaginative interior design for the Swedish Vittra schools has become famous around the world. Rosan Bosch is also widely renowned for her playful and unconventional design solutions created for a range of different customers such as LEGO, Copenhagen University, as well as the Danish Government. Currently Rosan Bosch Studio is working on a large school project for the Sheikh Zayed
Academy in Abu Dhabi.

RFSA (Raising Focus Students achievement) within subject
I have a proposal for those who are interested in joining this Inquiry with me. I am doing it anyway and as I said this will be just enough to fulfill all the 12 RTC requirements. All it needs is a meeting twice in a term. I am happy to share my resources and templates and we can do this as a group. All you need is
1. Choose at least two or more students. They could be Maori or Pasifika or a Gifted and talented student.
2. Should be able to have at least 6 interviews/meetings with these students during the course of the next 3 terms.
3. You will be able to monitor and support them to progress in their NCEA assessments using the resources I have.
4. Document evidence and present your reflection at the end of the year.
5. All it takes is approximately 4 to 6 PD Tuesdays in the next three terms.
6. After the initial meeting we could always have a virtual meeting if busy.
Please feel free to ask me more about this. I will be available on the next PD Tuesday for those who are interested.
Thank You Sudhir Kumar Duppati

Dr. Stuart Ablon is a child psychologist who specializes in working with challenging children and their families, teachers and helpers. He serves as the Director of Think:Kids at Massachusetts General Hospital Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School.
Challenging behavior exhibited by children and adolescents is a common concern and frustration for parents, teachers, and other helpers. In this talk, Dr. Stuart Ablon of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School will challenge the conventional wisdom about what causes challenging behavior and as a result what we should do to help. Drawing from research in the neurosciences, Dr. Ablon will suggest a revolutionary way of thinking about challenging behavior and a corresponding process by which kids of all kinds can be taught skills of flexibility, frustration tolerance and problem solving. Integrated Arts Curriculum at School Level – A Cultural Perspective. Published in SCOPE: Contemporary Research Topic (Art & Design 5&6) 2010/11, New Zealand http://www.thescopes.org/art/issues.php?issue=5&title=art

Integrated Arts Curriculum at School Level – A Cultural Perspective This paper attempts to examine New Zealand arts education programmes, beginning with the primary through the secondary school curriculum, to search for the possibility of integrating the independent arts disciplines currently existing in the schools. A learner-centred interactive interdisciplinary pedagogy is intended to draw a paradigm for arts education that has two similar, yet different, integrating points of inception. One is rooted in the indigenous concept of the art form embedded in cultures like those of Africa and Asia, while the other is identified in the modern educational psychoanalytical theory of multiple intelligences proposed by Howard Gardener. Parallel kinds of integration are found in these two approaches – either between the disciplines or within an individual’s intellectual development. Interestingly, it is clear that these two approaches, integrated into a curriculum, would enable a disci

PRACTICE- PROFESSIONAL ONLINE SOCIAL NETWORKS

PRACTICE - Professional Online Social Networks Teaching Visual Arts requires a predominate use of visual mostly from the media apart from books and catalogues. The vast amounts of digital resources has grown in the last decade with every possible information being available at our finger tips. This is also equally accessible by the learners and hence a common platform became necessary that could be shared with me and my students. As creative thought can just not only happen in the classroom but in places that are beyond class/school time. My use of Facebook as a social network for my design student’s remains as the most inspiring and affective form of communication to learn. The exchange of ideas and the timely sharing of resources has been a very significant form of learning in both our learnings. It was beneficial to my learners as they found timely help with ideas outside school hours. As FB is the most common social networking system, it has become easy to reach my learner
